Sue Ryder Care, Thorpe Hall Hospice, Peterborough, launched its first ever Midnight Walk on the 17th of May; sponsored by Serpentine Green Shopping Centre.

One thousand women took to the streets of Peterborough, starting at midnight, to walk 10 miles in support of the charity.

The Mayor of Peterborough, Marion Todd, and TV presenter Sarah Cawood, started the walk from Diligenta (Lynch Wood Business Park), where a stream of flashing bunny ears, devil horns and tiaras headed down Oundle Road, along Thorpe Road, talking in Thorpe Hall, and back along the rowing lake to Diligenta.

The first ladies arrived back within 2 hours and 20 minutes and the last walkers crossed the line at 4am - all were greeted with a goody bag and breakfast, served by O'Brien's.

Each walker has been asked to raise vital sponsorship money in the hope that collectively they will raise around £100,000 for Thorpe Hall Hospice.

Joni Wormall, fundraising manager for Sue Ryder Care, Thorpe Hall Hospice said: "The Midnight Walk was amazing! It was wonderful to see so many come out on a Saturday night to support Sue Ryder Care. The walk has proved to be the highlight of the year for us and looks set to raised far more than any event we have put on in the past. It was very special for the 1,000 women taking part too, with many walking in memory of someone"

Sue Ryder Care is a Registered Charity, No. 1052076
